Drawn in His Word – 9 -15-14

Are you drawn into the Word today? Do you have a deep desire within your heart to glean, to feed, and to drink of the goodness in the Word of God? Do you long to linger in His presence longer than you can squeeze into your day? Let’s put aside everything that hinders us from doing this today! Let’s get away in the Word and follow God through His Word; let us humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord and allow Him to lift us up!
An he gives grace generously. As the scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he wil flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hans you sinners purify your hearts for yoru loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves beore the Lord and he will lift you up in honor. James 4:6-10
God’s desire is to fill us with His joy, His hope and His love; He desires to give us the desires of our heart and our desire should be to fulfill His desire in us.  But what does that mean? How can we know that God wants to fill us with joy, hope, peace, and love? How can we know anything about God’s desire towards us at all? We dig in the Word! We read our Bible as often as we can! Read it at lunch instead of listening to the office chatter; grab your Bible instead of the computer game, or video game console. Choose God to fulfill your needs instead of that bag of cheesy chips and salsa.

His desire is to give you the desires of your heart.  He knows you get caught up in the world and that which is going on around you, I do too! It is so easy to see things that need fixing, or to see stuff that looks like fun and desire, or want, or wish things were different in our lives. Why do the wicked people seem to get to prosper all the time? How come the good people in the world often end up the ones who are standing in line to get food? Why can’t we get the blessings all the time?
Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they will soon fade away. Like spring flowers they soon wither. Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. Take delight in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. Be still in the presence of the Lord and wait patiently for him to act. Psalm 37:1-7
Sometimes I think we run through some mucky muck to draw us nearer to the Word of God, and God Himself; to know Him is the desire of our hearts right?  When we get caught up in the world and its flashy things, or the ‘fun’ we see other people doing, the items they have that we begin to covet we need to remember that God is still on the throne and we need to present our requests to Him. That does not mean we need to pray all the time for fleshy desires, though I think God will give us a nice running pretty vehicle if we are planning to use it for His glory; I do not believe He will provide a car to give us praise.  Sometimes our cars can be used to teach us lessons in righteousness. They can be used of God to show our true heart condition.
Recently I had a car problem. Prior to this I had plans for a delightful time driving to do things, being the mom who drops her kid where he wants, needs, desires to go but then it stopped working for a few days. It worked and then just stopped. It kind of brought out some things from my heart. My first question was towards God, “What are you doing to me God?” Now that may sound attitude filled but I actually meant it in humbleness of heart. Usually when God stops me, He has a plan for me. I admit I got emotional over it for a while but then I recalled what my first words had been and started wondering what He had in store. I learned something last week; I learned that the truth is the truth whether or not we believe it.
My husband knew what the problem was, but other people suggested things and he listened to me tell him what they said. He tested things, checked things and came back to the same problem, the same answer. So he fixed that. It started right up! Power! I learned that sometimes God tells us to listen to Him, and we think we are but we are second guessing what the real answer is. Sometimes we think, sure God that’s what I need to do, but I want to try this first.
What if the one of the ten people Jesus healed was thought “He said to go show yourselves to the priests. God healed him on the way for his obedience; but what if he said to himself “I think I will see if I take this medicine first it may just fix me up…” What then?  When we have the answer right in front of us we need to act on it then.  We may try to ignore it but once we begin to fix the problem whether or not we want to go through the trouble we will find peace even in the midst of the fixing process.
Sometimes it takes a broken car to slow us down enough to see other things we need to be focusing on. Perhaps it is a child that needs our attention, a foot that needs resting, a loved one who just wants to spend time with you.
Working on the car, handing my husband tools, brought back a flood of memories of times I spent with my father. The many years spent bringing him a cup of coffee just so I could stand there holding it for him while he fixed, or rebuilt an engine or body of a hot rod car drew me nearer to my earthly father; how much more should we be drawn to our heavenly Father? I was drawn to my daddy and found a way to spend time while he was about his business. Now I am drawn to God and find my self more and more filling a cup of coffee to bring it to my Daddy God and be there to hand Him tools.
Are you ready to receive the desires of your heart? Are you seeking out your Daddy while He works and spending time in His presence?  It is no secret that a person’s relationship with their earthy father is reflected in how they see God the Father. Today, this week lets try to spend more time with both, if we can, and if your dad is in heaven with our Father like mine, spend time in His presence even more.
Seek Him, feed on His Word and bask in His presence this week.
Dear Heavenly Father, draw us that we may run after you! Call us by name that we Your children may answer Your call and glean from You Goodness in the Word of God, our Bibles. Open our ears to hear and our eyes to see this week Lord God, in Jesus name, amen.
