Lost in His Word- 11-18-2013

Someone told me, actually a couple of people told me this week that it is important that we make sure we are spending time communicating with God, not just doing God's work. One way to do this is to get lost; lost in His Word!

Have you ever been lost in the Word of God? You know, when you are reading and the story line is so interesting that you go on and on and on forgetting how much time you had to read? This pleases God, He loves it when we sit at His feet and read His stories of history.

For we were not making up clever stories when we told you about the powerful coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We saw his majestic splendor with our own eyes when he received honor and glory from God the Father. The voice from the majestic glory of God said to him, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” We ourselves heard that voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain.
Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts. Above all, you must realize that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophet’s own understanding, or from human initiative. No, those prophets were moved by the Holy Spirit, and they spoke from God.   2 Peter 1:16-21

If you notice when you have been fed up on the Word you get through the day much easier. One of my kids once told me they tried it and it is true! That is what the Bible tells us to do, to study to show ourselves approved, to rightly study the Word it takes time in the Word.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. 2Timothy 2:15-16

Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. Psalm 25:5

How can we be lead unless we read to see where to Go? How can we teach others of what the Word says unless we get lost in the Word now and then?
We start with prayer; pray without ceasing. This means that as you get the thought through out your day pray.
We pick up the Bible and read; start with a planned amount of time if you must but then continue or stop short as you think you have had sufficient nutrients.
Think about it as food for the soul; you feed your body to give it strength, feed your spirit with the Word. Strength, guidance, all of that are found in the Word of God.

Less of us, more of Him and we are lost in the Word. It is not just about us picking the book up and reading it, it is about looking to what God has written and seeing what we can do with it. It is not about us! It is about Jesus working through, and in us! How can we know what to do each day if we have not connected to the power source of our guidance system? Only through Christ can we get connected, and only through the Word of God can we find that connection.

Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more. For you remember what we taught you by the authority of the Lord Jesus... Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8

I have heard people say that they have finished the Bible. They read it through and are done so they do not think they need daily reading, or any of the sort of regular reading people do. They think they know it all. I do not believe it is possible even if you can quote it from cover to cover; to ever really know the Word as He does. I think we can study it, and understand it as He gives it to us to understand. He uses the Bible as we know it to minister to us each day, but I know for a fact that I can read a scripture verse I had notes on from years ago and find a different blessing in it today!
I truly believe that it is because He is not finished with me yet! I know our God will direct us to get get lost in His Word daily and find for us the needs for that day, week, or time that we need it. I also believe that even Bible Scholars can find something new to them in the Word. Not new to the Word of God, but new to each of us; after all it is new every morning, His faithfulness!

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ; Philippians 1:5

Our job is to seek His face in prayer, then seek His Word in our Bibles. In doing this we will find the steps to follow in our lives, today, tomorrow and even in the moment we are in; His guidance is ours if we trust Him and accept it.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not in your own understanding, you know what Proverbs 3:5-6 says; walk in His Words! Trust Him to show you where to go and get lost in the Word studying, reading, relishing and basking in His love by way of the Bible today. Enjoy a heaping helping of  the Word of God today.

Dear heavenly Father, thank you for giving us Your Word to get lost in. Thank you that no other book out there will full our needs, give us direction and strength as our Bible will do. Help us today to loose ourselves in Your Word. More of you and less of me. In Jesus name. Amen.
