Worship
Him in Spirit and in Truth
You
will show me the path of life;in Your presence is fullness of joy; at
Your right hand re pleasures forevermore. Psalm 16:11
Have
you ever noticed that when you are truly in the depths of worship that
you feel no pain and nothing interrupts you? It is as if you are in His throne-room kneeling or
standing at the foot of the King of Kings. I have been in Camp
meetings when people would worship Him for hours on end. I am not
talking about the times when the Worship Team is performing for us
and we do the obedient thing to lift our hands, not that that is not always worshiping, but when you stand
there forgetting all things around you, all sorrow, all pain, all
annoying crying babies or coughing adults. When you know you are
standing in His presence there truly is fullness of joy.
True worship
is done from the heart not just the mind or posture. And when you
worship Him in spirit and in truth you will walk away changed.
'You
worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation
is of the Jews. But the hour is coming and now is when the true
worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the
Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who
worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.' John 4:22-25
When
You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face,
Lord, I will seek.” Psalm 27:7
Our Lord is calling us all to His presence today that we may worship Him in spirit and in truth.
In
Spirit- when we worship the Lord in the spirit, we release to Him all
those distractions so He can spend time communicating with us.
Some
of my favorite times have been when I am standing in His presence not
asking for anything just knowing that He is there. In such times the
housework, the written words, the family's needs and any pain is
gone, completely and totally from our thoughts we can bask in His
presence.
In
that place, the holy of hollies that Jesus made possible for us to
walk into we can feel whole, loved and healed.
The
upright shall dwell in Your presence. Psalm 140:13
What
a great way to start the day! What a splendid way to start the week;
spending time in His presence worshiping the Lord from the heart.
When
Moses was in God's presence there was a change that happened in his
life; it came from the heart. As with anything or anyone important
in the Bible Moses' transformation was done through the heart. With
our heats we believe and with our tongues we confess that Jesus is
Lord. Romans 10:10
This
morning as most mornings I put on my music and began to take a walk.
The difference this morning is that as I returned I kept the
headphones on and instead of going to write this devotional I
cleaned, did my dishes and such without pain. I realized that walking
with worship music had ushered me into His presence today. My focus
was not on the pain in my shoulder, nor was it on the work to be done
but I did it just the same and did a good job!
When
I stopped, I took off my head phones as I realized I had not had any
difficulty in doing anything while the music was on. I just worshiped
the Lord in all I did!
Wow,
it was that easy. I should mention the rest of life returned pretty
much to normal once I stopped worshiping, and allowed life to come
back into the main focus and it made me realize just how deep I was
in worship that I could shut everything else out.
You
have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy
in Your presence. Acts 2:28
This
week we need to make our focus to remember that when the world gets
us down, and it will get us down from time to time; we can know that
God is with us in all that we do He is only a heart song away.
For
years many people have written songs about worshiping the Lord right
where you are. If you are at work, stick in some headphones, or only
one if you need to be listening for phones or something. Just try it
and see what a difference it makes in your day.
If
you are shopping, you can use headphones too. If you are driving to
work you can put in a CD, hook up your iPod or turn on the radio and
find music that worships the Lord in song; then tune in your heart.
The
Truth- we need to worship Him with our heart. I call this a
heart-song because for me at least, my heart sings out with joy and
peace overwhelms me when I spend time in true worship.
So
how do I worship Him in spirit and in truth?
Provide
the time, turn on the music, and give Him your attention. Allow your
heart to feel the love you have for the Lord,. Remind yourself that
its just you and He in the room and enjoy His presence as you sing
to Him, or just sit or stand there telling Him of your thankfulness.
It is more than a prayer, its as if your heart is reaching out to
the Lord with a huge hug.
Sometimes
after a good time in worship I walk away feeling as if I am floating
on the clouds, as if I were physically in His presence. Truth is my
humanness keeps me on the ground more often than not because I allow
many things to get in the way of Him. Housework, writing, teaching,
planning the next event... there are always things that will get in
the way of our hearts. Lets try not to clutter it up but to give God
some space to draw us into His presence.
Start
thanking Him for His goodness, lift your hands or bow your head or
just stay straight that part doesn't matter; just keep your focus on
Him. Spend at least 5 minutes a day in worship and your day will go
splendidly better.
He
will keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him. He wants our
hearts and our minds to be focused on Him today. Lets worship Him as
we walk in His Word, and in His love today.
Dear
Heavenly Father, we give you our hearts, our souls and our minds to
draw into Your presence. We ask that you would call us that we would
walk in Your presence each day in whatever we do that it would be
done as unto You, in Jesus name. Amen
