To
save a life! ( Part 1) In His Word 9-28-2020
There
are so many good movies out there, and television has portrayed so many good
and bad stories that pull at our heart strings and tell us to be on guard, to
be ready, to know that life is something temporary and we need to live as if
each day were our last. Once in a while we loose someone and it hurts so much
that we just wish we could have died in their place, but we didn’t. We know
that is the epidemy of love, because we know someone who did die instead of us.
I am not taking about the person we lost, but the Person who willingly died for
us.
He
died to save a life.
Jesus died to save your life, that you may live eternally. You may want to say to Him as Lot did…and try to live your life the way you want, but God has other plans. He wants us to live, to use this life for His glory.
“Oh no, my lord!” Lot begged. “You have been so gracious to me and saved my life, and you have shown such great kindness. But I cannot go to the mountains. Disaster would catch up to me there, and I would soon die. See, there is a small village nearby. Please let me go there instead; don’t you see how small it is? Then my life will be saved.” Genesis19:18-20
Fear
can come at us even when we have accepted that Christ died for us, for eternity,
but God sent us a reminder again and again in the Word.
The
Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find
protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.
I
called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.
The
ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. He reached
down from heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters.17 He rescued me
from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me.
They
attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the Lord supported me. He
led me to a place of safety; He rescued me because he delights in me.
Psalm
18: 2-3 &16-19
We
need to but call upon the name of the Lord to be saved. No matter where we are,
or what we are into, if we call upon the name of the Lord, we will be saved.
Though in order to call upon Him we have to know to whom we call and believe
that He will save us.
About 30
years ago my husband and I were traveling toward the city we now live in. We
were moving our precious items to our new town and new life near Concord,
California. We were so excited, but we waited for a shipment to come in that
had precious items before we left Long Beach and drove up to our new home. Well
technically it was not yet ours, our apartment was waiting for us to sign
papers and move in. Due to our delay we ended up in a gully washer of a storm
that caused us to hydroplane and blow a tire in turn causing us to roll our Ford
truck. During the rolling I called out the name of Jesus over and over in
between calling for my husband. It felt like forever but when the car stopped
upside-down we were hanging by our seatbelts, and I remember as I let it go to
get out of the car I cut my thumb on a piece of glass. Our God sent help before
we knew we needed it! My hubby was removed from the cab carefully. Because we
could, we both walk we walked over to a commuter van some nice Medical people
who had just left work brought us to. We were not only protected from harm, but
my husband only had six small sutures due to glass shattering and I did not
need even one! I called upon the name of the Lord, and we were saved. Even our things
were gathered up for us and returned a few days later. The only thing they
could not find was my hurricane lamp, the thing we had waited for!
It was
only a thing, our lives were saved and we were not even in pain the next day
like they expected. God took care of us.
Turn
us again to yourself, O God. Make your face shine down upon us. Only then will
we be saved. Psalm 80:3
All
who ever came [a]before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear
them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in
and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill,
and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it
more abundantly.
John
8:8-10
But
this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the
last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; your sons
and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old
men shall dream dreams.
And on
My menservants and on My maid servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.
And
they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth
beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into
darkness,
and
the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the
Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall
be saved.’ Acts 2:16-21
The
world in which we live in is kind of crazy and scary at times, but we can know
that no matter what, if we call upon the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ, we shall
be saved.
Are
you scared today? Are you feeling your world twisting and twirly around you seemingly
out of control like we felt in our truck? Call upon the name of Jesus, believe
also in Him. You shall be saved, you and your household! In Jesus name!
Heavenly
Father, thank you for saving us all those years ago that we could do the things
you have had for us to do. Help us to continue to walk the path you put before
us, keep us strong! Grant us all the power to pray, to teach, to share the love
of You with others around us when the world gets crazy and tell them to call
upon Your name.
In
Jesus’ name, amen.
