Memories in
His Word 7-3-2017
I think
that some parts in the Word are such great memories! I think as the writers wrote, as Paul did of their
journeys, that they basked in His presence reminiscing of His goodness.
I
am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved
children. 15 For even if you had ten thousand others to
teach you about Christ, you have only one spiritual father. For I became your
father in Christ Jesus when I preached the Good News to you. 16 So I urge you to imitate me.17 That’s why I have sent Timothy,
my beloved and faithful child in the Lord. He will remind you of how I follow
Christ Jesus, just as I teach in all the churches wherever I go. 1
Corinthians 4:14-17
When
we share the good times we have had on media devices it can be as interesting
as the words were to those the scribes wrote in the beginning of the Word of
God; causing the reader to want to know more; or it can be as boring as a daily
newspaper in a city where nothing happens. I want what I share to cause others
to desire the event, the joy or the experience themselves but also to feel the
joy I felt in doing it and live through that if need be.
I
believe when we read the Word each day it can be so inspiring for how to live
our lives for the moment or for the days to come; we can plan for future
dealings with things that happen in our lives or we can realize how to live
through were we are now, in His Word!
I
am so grateful for God’s Word being written and for all the times it has given
me guidance from God for today; I am also grateful for the memories it stirs up
of times that I have been to camps and Bible College
and even at churches I have attended. There are also times with friends that
come to mind when I read certain ones.
One
memory that comes to mind while reading in Philippians is going on a short
hike/walk with Zina Docto in the Redwood campus on a retreat I remember to
think on these things. We were looking for the fun ropes workout path but never
found it that day. We instead found dreams and hopes were shared. So I learned
that sometimes its not what you are looking for that you find, but its another
friendship!
When
I read in Proverbs 17 I remember my friends, Lynda Gonzales from Bethel Chapel
days who was a true friend who came to my rescue and nursed me back to health
when my hubby was off in the Persian Gulf War. Even when I was a brat to her
she was still a true friend. I also remember my friend Suzie and I
sitting up late discussing different scriptures and drinking far too much
coffee years ago!
There
are many friend memories in the Word! I think of my friend Becky, in Ontario
Canada who has come to visit
us here in California
and brought some excitement to our home just by coming all this way!
When
I read of the stories that Paul wrote of being in chains, I can recall the
times when I felt my hands were tied and I could do nothing about a situation,
but then can remember this too shall pass!
It is all temporary, even the things that ‘lock us up’ so to speak.
This
weekend while many are celebrating their Independence
days in Canada and the United States of America ,
I hope that they are also celebrating the freedom to worship God and to read
His Word; it may not always be so free to do so and we may not always have time
with friends to create new memories!
Faith shows the reality
of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in days of old
earned a good reputation. By faith we understand
that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did
not come from anything that can be seen. Hebrews 11:1-3
Faith like memories can sustain us and remind us
of good times.
In the book of Hebrews we are reminded of many
Bible Memories as we are reminded of so many men and women of faith that we
have read about in His Word. Today take some time to read and think on these
things as you celebrate the memories of your country and family and friends;
remember to bring in the Word!
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us
memories to think on In Your Word. Today let us create memories together with
loved ones and friends and share your Word together, in your precious name of
Jesus, amen.
