What are you thinking? In
the Word 7/6/15
What are you thinking about
today? Are you focusing on the positive or the negative in your life? I can tell you now that if you
stay focused on the things that are wrong and do not find the right things you
will go down.
And by that I mean you will
find yourself laying on a floor someplace wallowing in your own self pity.
Nobody else on earth cares or knows what you are going through. They cannot
hear your thoughts, nor understand your hearts cry; nobody but God. Even before you or I were born He had His
Word, our Holy Bible, written to encourage and to strengthen us, to give us a
guide to follow and to know what happens when we allow the cares of this world
to bring us down.
We have heard it called
‘stinking thinking,’ or ‘negativity,’ or many other things that generally point
to us thinking about the wrong things in the wrong way and we just need to let
it go and look and think on these things.
And now dear brothers and
sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and
right and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are
excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians 4:8
As rough as this world is
we live in we are bound to have sorrow and be tormented with pain and suffering
at some point in our lives. What we should do when this happens is to change
how we look at things; we should lift up our anxiety, our worry, and our
burdens to Christ Jesus who took them on already when He died on Calvary .
Think about this; if we
choose to think on the rotten things in life to suffer in our sorrow then are
we not making Christ’s death failure? If we do not allow Him to take these
things, even our bad thoughts away then why did He die for us?
Are any of you suffering
hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.
James 5:18
Once we realize that we are
not alone in our plight, we should be able to accept the things that are
against us, and begin to look for an answer to how to get out of the mess we
are in. Sometimes we may not fully
understand why we had to suffer but as we work our way through the pain and
refocus and begin to listen to the Holy Spirit we will find a way to use that
pain to help someone else, or maybe even ourselves the next time we suffer in a
similar manner. Though we would rather not suffer again we do live in a world
of sin and sinners and chances are we will begin either thinking on the wrong
thing or saying the wrong thing and suffering will come.
It is really about what we
do in our hearts that God cares about.
If we are changed to be
more like Him, understanding that His love is amazing and can cover our sins as
well as make us whole again is only a small step in that change; we can begin
to heal.
It does not always have to
make sense because God knows more than we do about what we need, will need, and
how we can use it to further the kingdom
of God .
May you experience the love
of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made
complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able through His
mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more that we might ask
or think. Glory to Him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all
generations forever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:18-21
Our part is not to dwell on
the things, to think on the things that are hindering us from walking out the
joy unspeakable, the peace that passes understanding and the hope for tomorrow.
Our part is to focus on the positive, to think about the right things and not
the wrong. Do not bring up the old trash and sift through it to find today’s
meal! Toss that thought! Get rid of it and renew your mind in His Word today.
If someone has spoken, or
even physically harmed you in the past do not bring it up today to anyone but
God. Giving it to Him will heal your pains, dragging it out will often only
cause more harm and re-ignite the pain and suffering you felt at first injury.
Since you have been raised to new life with
Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the
place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things
of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this
life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And
when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share
in all his glory. Colossians 31-4
When we choose not to think
on those things that hinder our walk with Him, but to think on the pure, true,
just, good, and kind things then we cannot help but heal from the past hurts.
We allow God to do His work when we obey His Word.
We need to put on the new
man and walk in the newness of life each day, not just at our salvation. We
need to take off the old thinking cap and change our thinking at every instance
that it starts to stink! Get rid of the old way of thinking and change. After
all they say change is good.
Dear Heavenly Father, help
us today to look to Jesus to write each of our stories, to guide our steps and
to direct our heart’s path as well as our feet.
Help us to heal in Jesus’ name. Amen.
