Living In His Word- 10-27-14

Do you long for the moments you can spend with the Lord in His Word, your Bible? Do you walk through your day full of thoughts that you gleaned in your morning reads? Do you think about it on the way home and relish the though that you can curl up with not just ‘a good book’ but ‘The Good Book’ when you get home?  Not many do, but sometimes I can’t wait to finish a chapter I am reading to see what God is going to do for, or with, the people I am reading about.
I love a good book read! Whether it is a novel or a bible study, or even a daily devotional I love getting something from time spend devouring the author’s ideas on paper. It’s almost as if I am living in the book I read and am one of the characters taking part in the fantastic life story I am joining in as I turn the pages.

Some of my favorite novels have been stories about people who grew up trying to do the right things and ended up in all kinds of trouble and problems and looked to God for a way out. Some times they make it out but occasionally it is only the beginning of their turmoil because after all if I good writer doesn't leave you in suspense of the next book they would not sell it to you!
God’s Word does that! God has had it written in a way that each chapter, each book, leads you to the final outcome…but wait!

Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27:14

Wait on the Lord, And keep His way, And He shall exalt you to inherit the land; When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.
Psalm 37:34

His Word tells us to wait for the next chapter in our lives, the next chapter in His Kingdom, the next thing. He does not say go out and make it happen, our God says to wait for it!
So as we go through our day struggling to complete the tasks that pile up on our desks and counters we need to remember that we are waiting on God to complete the next book in our life series!

Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.  For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Hebrews 4:11-13

What will your life story say? Will it say you wasted time on yourself? That you spent your time and efforts on things that the wind and waves blew and tossed away; or will your story say you did the best you could with what you had?
Let’s face it we do not always have the best things in life when we are growing up as children, many parents have no clue how to raise a child and others could care less about it all; but God has a way of drawing us out of that cesspool of life and bringing us to something more. He will bring the right people into our lives that will invite us to church, to fellowship with believers or just to hang out and have fun playing volley ball with people whom we never thought we would find ourselves hanging with. Good people, if there are such a thing, who love one another and share their food and goods with you as well as their time and efforts really do exist! They are not only in fairy-tales, but real life people who honestly care enough to bring you food when your cupboards are down to the last bowl of ramen noodles. God has sent such people into my life’s chapters again and again.

I can recall a chapter in my life in which I was living my dreams or a story book tale; I had a little cottage in the woods and it was beautiful. There is one Christmas Eve in my life story, that I like to reread from year to year. I was going to be alone for Christmas that year but I wasn't alone for God had set in motion a plan to make sure I was never alone.
There were gifts from the children I taught at preschool and day care under my tree. I had Christmas music playing on my stereo cassette player and I was sipping cocoa by my wood stove garbage burner. The air outside was crisp from recent snow and I had an idea that I wanted to go Christmas Caroling! The only problem being I had no one with me to carol with. God sent the Halls, a family I was good friends with, to my door Caroling!  I joined in with them and we wandered our neighborhood singing up util we reached the Jacobson home and we were invited in.
I have to say at this point I thought I was living not just a story from a book but the movie version as well! I walked in to a house full of people! I was handed a hot cup of mocha and invited to sip some Clam soup! I looked around at my church family; Pastor and Mama Louise Frye, the youth Pastor and his wife Terri, and a few other people were singing along with us as we gathered in the lovely home of Judy Jacobson and her husband.
Tears came to my eyes when I realized that God had created a scene from my life’s story wishes for me to live.

Life is an open book, and God is still working on writing it!

While our lives do not always go the way we think they will, there are often cliff hangers and ‘didn't see that coming’ chapters; God is still writing our stories and if we don’t give up on our Hero  He will come through for us when we need Him.
So many people in the Bible went through crazy things, from Jonah and his big boat building, floating on the ocean world looking for land chapters to Esther and her becoming a queen so she can die but not really story; God has been writing amazing stories for ever! We are just here to live the Word!
We are told to walk in Him, with His Spirit, with Jesus, and in His Word we can do so!
Each day when you dig into the Word of God, your Bible and glean from its wisdom look to God the Author and the finisher of your story! Ask Him how this information can be applied to the chapter you are in right now and live in it!
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for writing our stories. The suspense, the excitement and the sorrow all flows together and builds in us a trust in You to bring us through. Help us today to glean from the Bible and apply it to this chapter, in Jesus name, amen.
